Background Information
Promoting Space Coast Outdoor Activities Providers

Greetings from Dave & Laurilee -

There is no question that Florida's Space Coast is blessed with a wealth of unique assets that no other community can claim. In the same place where you can see mankind's most advanced technologies launch people into space, you can discover some of the world's oldest living reptiles warming themselves in the sun. Living relics from the late Mesozoic era, alligators have existed for 140 million years. A true "water world," Brevard County, the hub of the Space Coast, has the Atlantic Ocean along its east coast, a large estuary system right in the middle, and the St. Johns River on its western border. The area's wonderful climate and diversity of habitats results from its unique geographic location - a region where temperate and sub-tropical climatic zones meet.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge contains more threatened and endangered species than any other National Wildlife Refuge in the continental U.S. Nationally recognized as one of America's most beautiful beaches, Canaveral National Seashore is the longest stretch of undeveloped beach on the east coast of Florida. Kennedy Space Center is home to the world's largest population of threatened Florida scrub-jays. Supporting the East Coast's largest populace of endangered Florida manatees, the Indian River Lagoon system has more species of plants and animals than any other North American estuary. Known as the Surfing Capital of the Eastern U.S., the beaches of the Space Coast are of global significance for nesting sea turtles and the world's most endangered large whale uses near-shore waters as a calving ground in winter. Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, the nation's first national wildlife refuge is located here.

Recognizing the importance of economics in the justification of resource protection in 1997, a group of volunteers created the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival which has grown to become the nation's number one birding and wildlife event. The festival attracts visitors from all over the world, many of whom return to the Space Coast throughout the year. Building on the Festival's phenomenal success, in cooperation with Peak Performance Co., a series of web sites was created to enhance awareness of our natural assets and to support outdoor providers.

Without question, the Internet plays a major part in the planning process used by visitors as they prepare for their vacations and by people planning to relocate to our area. Additionally, local residents depend on the Internet for up-to-date, detailed information about their own backyards.

Our three active web sites - SpaceCoastBirding.com, SpaceCoastPaddling.com and SpaceCoastHiking.com - currently receive nearly 4,000 visitors a month. Each of the individual websites contains the list of outdoor providers with their phone numbers. You can visit any of the links on the top right to view the current list.

To further enhance awareness of the Space Coast, similar web sites are planned for development: SpaceCoastAirboating.com, SpaceCoastBiking.com, SpaceCoastHorsebackRiding.com, and SpaceCoastSurfing.com. Additionally, SpaceCoastKayaking.com leads to SpaceCoastPaddling.com. The list of all outdoor providers will also appear on these web sites as they are developed.

We are offering the opportunity for charter outdoor providers to have a direct link to their websites from their name on each of the active websites for one year for only $60.00. That's just $1.67 per month for the three current websites.

For an additional $60.00, twenty providers may also place a 120px by 60px display ad at the top of the provider list, just under the hospitality display ads. You may provide the graphic display ad, or we will set one up for $30.00.

Eight members of the hospitality industry may place 120px by 90px display ads (which link to their websites) at the top of the listing for $240.00.

These rates are guaranteed for ads placed through 2007 only. Please use this form to participate.

To participate in these web sites, a business must be located in or conduct tours within the Space Coast region. We define that as including Brevard County and its five neighboring counties: Indian River, Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia.

Think of the potential of having seven similar websites, each specializing in a specific activity that calls attention to other outdoor activities in our area. This will enhance the value to each of us. You probably appreciate the value of having a link to your web site from websites as active as these. Think of how much it will do for all of us in the area if you place a return link on your website.

Peak Performance Co. is responsible for the North Brevard Business Directory, www.nbbd.com, a web site that receives more than 80,000 unique visitors every month. The North Brevard Business Directory received a 2002 Encyclopedia Britannica Award for Excellence for the ecotourism portion of its web site. Peak Performance Co. is employing the same expertise that drives over 80,000 visitors a month to the nbbd.com web site to these Space Coast outdoor activity sites.

On the right side of each website is, to the best of our knowledge, the current list of outdoor providers. If you know of someone who should be included, please encourage them to contact Dave at 321-267-7367.

Thank you for your consideration.

Cordially,
David N. Rich and Laurilee Thompson
